Wavesc
Overview
This final degree project addresses the challenges of mass tourism in Costa Brava, focusing on overcrowding during the summer. It aims to explore strategies that mitigate the negative impacts of high visitor numbers, enhancing sustainability and tourism diversification in the area.
The project includes the development of an app that encourages sustainable tourism by guiding visitors to less crowded areas, promoting both environmental and economic sustainability. Additionally, a sensitization campaign is proposed to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable and diversified tourism in the region.
The typography in the application can densify, reflecting crowd levels by visually linking the text’s form to the presence of visitors in towns. This acts as a real-time visual code, with the text appearing denser during high crowding and lighter when fewer people are present. It provides users with an immediate sense of crowd density without needing specific data, achieved through a P5.js algorithm.
